(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Nov. 1
The local bowling club had perfect weather for the opening of the season, and the members and their friends turned up in force.\ Mr. W. Bent, in the absence of the president (Dr. Campbell) and vice-president (Mr, S. G. Fraser], made the opening speech.- He said that the prospects for the season were good, several new members having joined and the green being in good order. Everything pointed to a very successful season. A set of gold medals had been presented for competition, and he had no doubt other trophies would be forthcoming to foster interest in the game. Mrs. Campbell was then asked to the jack, and the green was declared 1 open. The usual president v. vicepresident match was played, being won by the president's rink rather easily The lady members dispensed afternoon tea after the first game of croquet played on the green this season. The Freezjng Works, Ball Committee are working' hard to make the ball on the sth and fith inst. a success, and good prizes ar&. offered for the best and -nost original fancy dress. The public of .Waitara are offered' a musical treat on Monday night, when Mr. Frank Amoore', the celebrated tenor, is giving a recital in the, Theatre Royal. He comes with a great reputation from all the towns in which he has sung, and it should be a Ted lSttcr day for the musical people of the Waitara district.
