Lester, Signaller Sherson, and Trooper McAsley were the guests at a welcome home social in the Midhirst Hall on Tuesday evening, at which each was presented with an illuminated address by Mr. G. Harkness, on behalf of the Reception Committee. The chairman stated that in connection with similar functions the Reception Committee had raised about £4OO, ot which £3BO had been spent. Items were contributed by Misses Black and Kivell and Mesdames, Bennett, Tapp, aind Mail. The accompaniments were played by Miss Huse and Mrs. Mail. Orchestral selections were played by /Lester's Orchestra. Music for the dance was provided by Miss Huse, extras being played by Mrs. F. Taylor, Miss Kivell, and the orchestra. Messrs Carter and Shotter acted as M'SC.
A social was held in the Stanley Road Schoolroom last evening. Songs were given by Misses Black and Sangßter and Mr. P. Aitken, and a duet was sung by Miss Black and Mr. Aitken. Music for the dance was played by Miss Orchard, Miss Riley and Miss Sangster assisting with extras. Mr. Chard was M.C. The ladies served a good supper. The proceeds from the social will be used in meeting expenses incurred in connection with the unveiling of the roll of honor in the school* . , The vital statistics for Stratford for the month just ended are: Births IT, deaths 4, marriages 5. Permits have been granted by the Stratford Borough Council during the past month for buildings valued at £2635.
The weekly early morning train from j Whangamomona, which is to be continued experimentally for three months, will run for the first time on Monday, and thereafter will fun every Monday morning. The train will arrive in Stratford at 8.20 a.m., and will leave again for Whangamomona at 9.30 a.m. On Mondays the usual 10.25 a.m. train will not leave Whangamomona till 12.50 p.m., arriving at Stratford at 3.25 p.m. A roll of honor contining 25 names for Matau is on exhibition in Messrs Weston Bros.' shop window.
