The membership 'night be gr-.•ater, if public servants recognised the duty of universally stand,ag together. .•delegates urged the necessity of reform in the classification, and a more adequate scale of salaries; representation on the Public Service Board was wanted, together with the maintenance of the present Appeal Board; to reduce the cost of living, which weighed so heavily on the public servant, the Jstablishuient of co-operative stores was proposed, thereby avoiding profiteering. The association passed remits requesting the Government to amend the Public Service Act to provide for the control of the aervice by a son-political board instead of the present system, the hoard to inoludfl one member at least elected by public servants and members of the association. The conference expressed keen disapproval of any attempt, to revert, to the former system.of political control. Wellington, Last Night. Among the remits adopted were the following: That when appointments are made by the Corami3sk)Por the name of the successful applicant shall be notified to ali applicants for the position immediately the appointment is made; That all salaries and wages be paid at least fortnightly instead of monthly as at present. The conference resumes to-morrow.
