Cameron, deputy Mayor, presided at a meeting of the Borough Council held' on Monday evening. It was decided, to ask the Public Work;, Department to prepare estimates and plans for a concrete bridge over the Patea River at the south end of Broadway, the full width of the road. An application for a subsidy towards the cost of publishing a booklet advertising Stratford was refused. ?h? Unskilled laborers are so scarce in Stratford at present, that, they cai; command wages above those paid to skilled workers and in connection with one building contract as high as 2s 6d an hour is being paid. As the men work ten hours a day they earn 25s per day. AH kinds of labor is scarce fend carpenters, who are exceedingly busy just now, are being paid above the award rate and are able to put in a good deal of overtime. A large motor car paint shop, 80ft by 40ft, has jus!. heen erected at the south end of the tort; by Mr. McMillan for Mr. C. J); Matthews, motor car painter. Healy, of Stratford, has been elected a member of the committee of the New Zealand Institue of Architects. POLITICAL. To a large number of electors assembled in the Pukengahu School on Monday evening, Mr. R. Masters (Liberal and Labor candidate), delivered a very interesting address along the lines of his previous speeches. The speaJcer dealt with a variety of important suojects, including shipping, Board of Trade, educational, a State bank, and the proposed Territorial training scheme. The meeting concluded with a Hearty and unanimous vote of thanks.

The picture deals with the adventures of John Trimble, an employee of a corporation, who resorts to theft in order to meet his debts. Trimble finds a dead body and, by dressing it in his own i clothes creates the impression that he has been drowned. His wife marries again. Assuring himself that he is dead to the world, Trimble assumes the name of Martin, and having worked as ft, stevedore he decides to shin for Australia. The attention of the cnief of police is attracted to Trinrtuc, alfas -Martin, and he resolves to arrest him on the charge of murdering Trimble The chief confronts the so.called Martin and when he attempts to arrest him, a fierce battle ensues. Finally the chief is knocked down and Martin makes nls escape. Trimble remains in liidmg in San Franci?co. The remainder 01 u.e story, which has a very happv conclusion, deals with the circumstances which led to his re-union with his a<*cd mother. Also on the bill is a Triangle drama entitled "Untamed." in which Roy Stewart is starred. The picture contains (beautiful natural settings and many thrills and romantic adventures.. The great occasions in life—starting school, Confirmation, coming of age—and the many other events in the every-day experience of us all, how delightful to have a record of all these.
