The presidential party, returning from an auto trip to Portland, Oregon, were involved in an auto accident. Two cars collided, two newspaper men being killed and two injured. Mr. Baker, before the House Military Committee, stated that American troops were being maintained in Siberia for the sole purpose of guarding the railroad. A representative: "That's all bunk. Why does not the secretary give the real reasons instead of romaheing?" Mr. Baker replied that it was not his fault. THE PEACE TREATY. Received Sept. 16, 8,45 p.m. Washington, Sept. 15. A hurricane demolished buildings at Port Aransas and Mustang Island, with loss of life, and also lifted the steamer Medina ashore at the dockhead of Aransas Pass.
