THE FIUME RAID. A DELICATE MATTER TO ADJUST. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Paris, Sept- 15. D'Annunzio has proclaimed the union of Fiume with Italy. Mr. Lloyd George and Signor Tittoni met the Supreme Council. It is understood that the Fiume situation was discussed. London, Sept. 15. Advices from Fiume state that numbers of the inhabitants joined the raiders, also some Italian sailors, who swam ashore. The raiders pulled down the French and British flags. The French and British troops were confined to barracks. THEATRICAL ENTRY OF D'ANNUNZIO'S FORCE.. Received Sept. 16, 5.5 p.m. . Rome, Sept. 14. D'Annunzio led an unauthorised entry into Fiume of 8000 Italian volunteers, including many demobilised soldiers. Genera! Pittaluga, Italian commander of the city, barred the way with Italian troops and, machine-guns. After D'Aninmzio's challenge to General Pittaluga to shoot his patriotic countrymen, and baring his own breast for bullets, the leaders of the opposing forces embraced each other, amid shouting of "Viva Fiume!" The Allied garrisons remained in their barracks. The Italian Government has disavowed D'Aimunzio's action.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. BIG FORCE IN . THE TOWN. Received Sept. 16, 11.35 p.m. Paris, Sept. 15. Twenty-six thousand Italians are now in Fiume. The French left, carrying their flags, at IXAnnunzio's request. SOCIALISTS'. STATEMENT. 'Received Sept. 17, 1.30 a.m. Rome, Sept. 15. The Socialist minority in Parliament has issued a statement urging Italy to annul the Treaty of Versailles, as Italy has received no advantage from it.— Times Service.
