APPOINTMENT OF TEACHERS.

MR TRIMBLE'S REMARKS WITHDRAWN. There were several letters before the Education Board yeslerday in regard to the retorted statement by Mr Trimble at the last meeting of the Board, relating to tho appointments of uncertificated teachers. Mr Trimble said he had not seen the reports of what he said but he did not wish the inspectors to take his remarks in their literal sense. Mr Morton (senior inspector) said he was glad to have Mr Trimble's assurance, and that It would be unnecessary for htm to call further attention to the matter, which had happily ended as was to be expected, in view of Mr Trimble's past relations with the inspectors. Mr Morton then referred to the difficulties that had been experienced in getting teachers and said that the uncertificated teachers were usually keen, and endeavored to remove the handicap under which they took up the work. He would not llko the opinion to bo established that the uncertificated teachers were not doing good work for tho State.

Mr Masters expressed satisfaction at the ending of the Incident. He felt quite sure Mr Trimble had no Intention of reflecttns on the Judgment of the Inspectors. The Board regretted having to make some of the appointments of teachers who were not up to the desired standard. In doing bo tile backblock schools to which the teachers were usually appointed were placed under still greater disadvantages than those they naturally had to put up with. He paid a tribute to the work of the uncertificated teachers and sulci that but for their help the Board would have had to close 00 per cent of the schools in the district, during the war period, and a great debt of gratitude was due to them. He thought however that with the classes established for their assistance and the appointment of the organising teachers, 'who would soon be commencing their work, the prospects for the teachers and also the schools In the back districts were much brighter and they would Soon be on a footing of equality with the towns.
