RETURNING SOLDIERS.
ARRIVAL OF ATHENIC. By Telegraph .—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Athenic, with draft 277, berthed at 3.45 p.m. The complement comprised 442 troops, 358 wives, and 70 children TJie vessel came via the Panapia Canal, and touched at Newport News. The trip was uneventful, and no' sickness was experienced on board. A great crowd on the wharf welcomed the troops and soldiers' wives. The Patriotic Societies' Band played selections. Only the Wellington and Ifelson troops left the vessel to-day. The Nelson men left by the Kaitoa. this evening. The details for Auckland and diHtrict will leave by special train from Thorndon at 12.30 p.m. to-morrow, those for Pataerston North, Wanganui, New Plymouth, Napier, and Gisbonie will travel by mail train, leaving at 8.20 a.m., the Napier and Gisborne men connecting with another train at Palmeraton, and those for stations between Wellington and Longburn will leave at 8 a.in. Picton and Blenheim details will leave by the Mapourika on Wednesday at noon, other South Island men proceeding to Lyttelton by the Athenic, which will leave at 7 r,.m, tomorrow.
