HAILSTORM AND SNOW.
CHRISTCHURCH'S EXPERIENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At five o'clock to-night severe southerly squalls struclc the city. Afterwards a heavy hailstorm set in, and hug been falling heavily ever since. At 7 p.m. there was already a thick coating of snow on the ground, and at present there is every indication of the snowfall being a very heavy one. Tiic .mow cleared up shortly after nine o'clock. ' Then fully two inches of snow had fallen. The snow was followed by rain, with intermittent snow showers. The sudden change in the weather conditions will detrimentally affect the many outdoor gatherings arranged in connection with H.M.S. New Zealand's visit.
Very little information is obtainable from the country districts to-night, but it is understood the snowfall has been heavy.
