OUR BUTTER SUPPLY.
WILL INCREASE SHORTLY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. There has been a suggestion that, though there is a shortage, of butter in various parts of New Zealand, fairly large quantities are held in store. The matter was mentioned to the Prime Minister to-day, when lie made tlio following official statement in reply:— "At the end of April chere were ■82,000 boxes in store, a quantity far in excess of that usually required to meet the demands of the local market during the winter months; but the quantity of butter manufactured since then has been only about one-third of that usually prouuced by factories during May, June, July, and August, bonce the shortage which could not be foreseen- It is expected, however, that ample supplies will lie available for tiie local market through the usual channels within the next week or ten days, as practically the whole of the factories have now commenced operations for the season."
