SHOCKING FATALITY.

RETURNED SOLDIER KILLED AT TAIHAPE. The Chronicle's Taihape correspondent reports that a shocking accident happened at the Taihape railway station shortlyafter midday on Saturday, by which a man named Claude Reach lost his life through being run over by a rake of trucks which were being shunted from a ballast train. The body was terribly mangled. Deceased, who was about 35 years of age, belonged to Rangataua, and had only just resumed duty as a carpenter with the Railway Department on his return from active service. He intended going to Rangataua to join his sister, and was waiting for the 1 o'clock train to proceed. It is not known whether he was crossing the line when caught by the moving trucks or whether he waß riding on the brake lever and slipped, being caught by the wheels of the following trucks. Several trucks passed over the body, portions of which were removed from the wheels and track. Deceased was unmarried.
