-. • "fc " A MINER'S DEATH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedln, Last Night. Robert William Smith, married, aged 53 years, residing at Brighton, employed in a local coal mine, was working to-day when a slab of clay from the roof struck him down against the hard coal, causing a deep gash on the left temple. He was apparently suffocated while unconscious. An inquest opened for identification and adjourned. The mine has been closed down meanwhile.' About a dozen men have been employed since the mine opened early this year. Deceased came from Canada five years ago and went to Brighton in February. Ho was an experienced miner, and leaves a widow, two daughters, and a son not. yet returned from the war.
