WANCANUI SESSIONS. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Wanganui, Yesterday In the Supreme Court this morning Noma James Walkington Smythe pleaded not guilty tc a charge of obtaining £U from P. C. Scarrow, farmer, by means of false pretences in reprc senting that lie was a Government official and that it was compulsory for Scarrow to purchase certain books. There are ten other counts of a Bimiln> nature, The case is proceeding. INVERCAEGILL SESSIONS. Invercargill, Last Night. At the Supreme Court there was only one case, that of Thomas Andrew Hannah, who appeared for sentence on three charges at Wallacetown, and was ordered to bu detained for ten years for reformative treatment. William James Perry, formerly a hotelkeeper at t Christchureh, obtained a decree nisi against Myra Perry, on the grounds of adultery, and he was awarded £125 ' damages against the corespondent, Daniel Hardland, jnr., a baker, of Gore. NAPIER SESSIONS. Napier, Last Night. James Corbett Murphy, alias Sullivan, came before the Supreme Court on a charge of theft of moneys totalling £43 4s, the property of the' Federated Seamen's Union. The jury returned with a verdict of guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy, on account of the laxity of the management of the Seamen's Union in Napier. His Honor said he would consider the recommendation, and sentence prisoner to morrow.
