THE EAST COAST.
DEVELOPING ITS RESOURCES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Xapier, Last Night. Tlio conference called for to-day by the East Const Railway League for the purpose of forming tin East Coast Development League and discussing the best methods of advancing the interests of the East Coast, was presided over by Mr. C. Ellison. The chairman stated that it was no good going over past mistakes. All governments were to blame, and people themselves. They had only six or seven members of Parliament, and they, unfortunately, had net always pulled together. The speaker referred to the extensive lands still unopened on the East Coast, which was richly provided by nature. It was hilly country, but the soil was good. Then' were no harbors, but a railway would be of great service, yet practically nothing had been done to open up the. land. Much of the discussion centred round the neglect of the Waikaremoana hydroelectric scheme, and the utmost unity prevailed. The league was formally instituted and officers elected.
