JAPANESE TRADE MONOPOLY. CHINA'S SUSPENDED ANIMATION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Peking, Aug. 24. China is reduced politically to a state of suspended animation pending the settlement of the Shantung question. The latest Japanese proposals, though supported by President Wilson, are regarded as wholly unacceptable, besides evading the mix of the situation. It is impossible to say that China's sovereignty is unimpaired while the Japanese control the harbor and railway termini and are permitted to extend lines into the interior, thus leading to a great trade monopoly.—Aus.
