Mr. Hoover advised the Peace Council that unless the widest autocratic powers were taken in dealing with the coal situation in Silesia, nothing can save Europe from a severe economical cmia. He de- n pieted alarming conditions throughout A.nstro J Hungary directly traceable to coal scarcity. The effects of shortage of food and hospital requisites at Budapest are resulting in an appalling increase in tuberculosis and the prevalence of infantile diseases. Paper clothing is being commonly used. There has been a general debacle in urban life owing to coal and food difficulties.—Times Service,
