RESTRICTED TRAIN SERVICE.
SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT NEXT WEEK By Telegraph.—i'rcss Association. Wellington, Aug. 21. The coal position having slightly improved, it in understood that next week through trains will run between Auckland, New Plymouth, and Wellington, and between Christchurcb, Dunedin, and Invercargill. A train will leave Invercargill on Monday lor Dunedin and leave Dunedin for Christchurch on Tuesday. A traiu will leave Christchurch for Dunedin on Thursday and Dunedin for Invercargill on Friday. On the northern linos a train will leave Auckland for Wellington on Tuesday and Wellington for Auckland on Thursday.
A train will leave Wellington for New Plymouth on Tuesday and New Plymouth for Wellington on Thursday. The connection with- Napier will be made at Palmerston,
The restrictions on passengers will remain in operation, as tho necessity for coal saving still exists.
CARRIAGE OF SCHOLARS ARRANGED
Christchurch, Last Night. The Mayor has received a telegram from Mr. Herries stating that owing to a slight improvement in coal supplies the Department hopes to he able next week to arrange for the carriage of school pupils to their homes, but it would be necessary for headmasters and principals to communicate with the traffic manager. SAWMILLS HAVE TO CLOSE. Wellington, Last Night. A timhor miller stated to-day that aliotit half the sawmills on the Main Trunk line have closed down owing to the curtailment of the railway services, throwing several hundred men out of Work,
