WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) August 10. Two steamers are expected in the roadstead at the end of the month, the Essex about the 26th, and the Durham a. week later. Between them they are expected to take 8000 bales of wool, besides frozen moat, etc. It will take still another vessel to clear out the sheds to start empty for the forthcuming season. ■

] The new shop which has been built by Mr. R. Oibbon, on West Quay, which is practically finish*l, ii to be opened on Monday by Mr. E. bean, as a restaurant and fish and oyster saloon. All efforts to refloat the s.s. Arapava have failed and it is proposed to lift her with hydraulic jacks on to a cradle, and work her down the beach. It is hoped to have her far enough down the beach to float her off at the next spring tides. Messrs. *iaustad, Harlow, S and Co., started on Thursday to convey Waitara technical school students to New Plymouth. 1 understand that no one could be. found to take the contract on, and Messrs. Gaustad, Marlow and Co stepped into the breach, so that the children could continue, their studies uninteri uptedly. They are to be complimented on their'public spirit. On the first trip they carried 17 boys and girls, and expect to carry about 20 in a few days.
