INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent ) August 15. Miss E. Rolston was the recipient of a complimentary social on Saturday evening, previous to her departure for Hunterville. The Inglewood City Fathers are about lo initiate a scheme of further beautifying the town. It is proposed to commence operations in the square. The recreation grounds will be further planted with native and flowering trees and shrubs. The Borough Councillors are making a move iu the right direction, and they will receive the support of the wholo community. A mean theft was committed here last week, when a young lady's overcoat was taken from an ante-room of the Druid's Hall whilst a complimentary social was in progress. The coat pocket contained a sum of money and an article which was to be presented to the guest of the evening. The police have the matter in hand, and hope to restore the lost articles. The Catholic social eventuated last evening at the Town Hall, and was n great success. The floor was in good order, whilst the music supplied by Miss Curd's orchestra was all that could be desired. The Fire Brigade ball, which takes place at the Town Hall on Thursday next, promises to be the function of the season. The brigade are in need of financial assistance, and it is hoped that a great response will be made to augment their exchequer. A strong ladies' committee has been working assiduously for some time past, and their efforts should be crowned with success. Captain Harold Thompson, who has recently returned from active service, is spending a few days in Inglewood. He intends leaving for the south next week. The usual monthly meeting of the Society for the Health of Women and Children was held in the Plunket room on Monday afternoon, when it was decided to ho'ld a Daffodil Tea on September 11. Details will be given later.
