The report of the Royal Commission Appointed to inquire into the working of the Government dockyard at Walsh Island is strongly condemnatory. Capital has been expended unprofitabjy by the State in equipping the establishment, and the cost of work, compared with that done elsewhere, is excessive. Neither the estimates of the cost of the work nor the charges provided for depreciation or interest on capital. Since its inception the establishment has been a distinctly unproductive venture. The commission recommends the redaction of the yard to suitable dimensions to meet lie needs of the service by selling the establishment as a whole and erecting smaller works, or the sale
