The Officer Commanding the District (Colonel Mac Donald) has declined to confirm the proceedings against Frank McSweeney, tried by court-martial .on a charge Of desertion, and ordered the release of the accused. INCREASED TRAMWAY FARES. Wellington, August 8. Consequent upon the increased wages recently granted and the cost of material ths finances of the city tramways for some time have been in ail unsatisfactory condition,-and the City Council, being Faced last night with a deficit, decided to institute a new scale of fares. The principal change is a twopenny minimum fare.
