The Government Ims ordered 409,000 tons of shipping and private firms are constructing 1,015,000 tons, thus restoring the French merchant fleet to its prewar footing. The Minister of Transport saya France must raise her merchant fleet at five million tons. He will shortly introduce a Bill which will give France a fleet twice as large as its pre-war fleet. It will be constructed at the National Ship Yards, the operations occupying three years.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
