A-NAUTICAL INQUIRY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A nautical Court'of Inquiry on Friday investigated the causes of the mishap to the barquentine Laura, which, on June 28, truck a ree£ outside Wellinjr ton Heads. The Court found the direct cause of the casualty was a sudden gust of wind which filled the sails as the vessel was being put about to avoid running into land on the port bow. The casualty had been contributed to. by an error of judgment on the part of the captain in attempting to make an anchorage in the harbor under darkness, and without any local_ knowledge of the lights on adequate charts. The court was of opinion the ship should have hote to till daylight and a pilot signalled for. It ordered the certificate of the captain to be returned on payment of half the costs of the inquiry. It also directed the mate's certificate to he returned.
