DIRECT ACTION OR WAGE SLAVERY. PUSHING A GENERAL STRIKE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.-Copyright. Melbourne, July 14. ' At a big demonstration in support of the strike, Mr. Walsh, secretary of the Seamen's Union, urged that they must have direct action; to accept the Arbitration Court would be to confirm the principle of wage slavery. They were going to get a settlement outside' of tho court, and if that settlement was not forthcoming something else would be forthcoming. They were qui,te prepared for any eventuality. Other speakers support direct action and warned other unions that unless they supported the seamen's claims everyone would suffer. Sydney, July 14.
The delegates from Melbourne have arrived to push the movement in connection with the proposed general strike and to support the seamen. Definite action is anticipated during the week, though the indications are that the miners are unfavorable to the strike. IN SYMPATHY WITH SEAMEN. WATERSIDERS DECLINE TO WORK. Wanganui, July 14.' . The steamer Inga arrived with a cargo of coal from Newcastle on Saturday for the local gasworks. This morning when labor was being selected to unload the vessel tho men refused engagement to discharge the coal on the grounds that the crew are non-unionists. If the coal cannot be unloaded or other supplies do not come to hand the gas is likely to be shut off on Wednesday, as the coal supplies are almost depleted. CALL FOR OUTSIDE HELP.
