BACK FROM THE WAR.

WELCOME TO RETURNED I SOLDIERS. I A large draft of returned soldiers for Taranaki reached Hawcra by yesterday morning's train from Wanganui. There was a fafrly large number of citizens at the station to welcome the men. The Mayor apologised for the station not being decorated and the absence of the band, owing to the shortness of the notice. The soldiers were supplied with refreshments by the Women's National Reserve. The Mayor, in a brief speech, extended a welcome home to the Hawera soldiers and their comrades who were going north. He congratulated them upon their services for the Empire, and said it was because of their noble deeds, with the other soldiers of the Empire and of the Allies, that the world was to-day enioying ;>eace- To the soldiers' wives his Worship also gave a hearty welcome, expressing the wish that they would be happy and prosperous in their new homes. He also thanked once again the Women's National Reserve for their kindness in providing refreshments for the soldiers. Cheers were given the returned soldiers and Women's National Reserve. The following is the list of t the men who were due to arrive by the' draft:— Hawera: Private S. Bailey, Gunner S. R. Blair (Manaia), Corporal I. C. Brogden, Sapper A. J. Fake, Corporal L. Mercier, Sergeant J. E. Smith, Driver W. H. Young (Otakeho). Eltham: Sister E, M. Fitzgerald. Wait&ra: Rifleman S. McMillan. Waverley: Driver E. Matsen, Private A. E. Partridge. New Plymouth: Sergeant J. L. Black, Gunner V. G. Blanchett, Sapper H. W. S. Davies, Sapper G. Loveridge, Quarter-master-Sergeant E. R. Low, Gunner HG. MoGahey, Corporal T. B. Paton (Warea), Gunner J. B. Styles, GunneT P. A. Tunbridge, Private B C. Wheeler. StratfoTd: Corporal C. Catley, Corporal S. W. Nash, Gunner T. H. Reader. Inglewood: Private C. Gernhoefer. I'atea: Private H. J. Smith. Sergeant Smith and Corporal Brogden were the only members of the Hawera draft to arrive.—Star-
