NEW ZEALANDERS DEFEAT NEWCASTLE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn,—Copyright. Received June 15, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, June 15. The New Zealand League footballers met Newcastle yesterday. In the first spell Ifwerson scored a try. In the second spell Ifwerson added two tries, and Davidson kicked a goal, the final scores being: New Zealand 11, Newcastle 8. MAORI PIONEERS v. HAWKE'S BAY. Hastings, June 14The Maori Pioneer Battalion football team played a return match against Hawke's Bay this afternoon,* before a large attendance, including Sir Andrew and Lady Russell. The game resulted in an easy win for the Maoris, who defeated their opponents by 25 points to 6. Their score was made up of tries by Rogers, Wilkinson, Barclay (2), Gardiner, Apanui, and Croll, two of which were converted by Jacobs. For Hawke's Bay, Findlay kicked two goals from _ free kicks. The game was fast and willing throughout, but the heavy physique and passing tactics of the visitors proved too much for the local men.

SATURDAY CHAMPIONSHIP. SENIOR COMPETITION. Tho senior competition was continued on Saturday, when Okato, and Star met at New Plymouth, and Bahotu and Old Boys at Bahotu. STAB (14) v. OKATO (5). There wa3 a very fair attendance at the Recreation Grounds, where Star and Okato m)t, the town team winning by 14 to 5. Though devoid of particularly brilliant play, the game was Interesting, and fairly fast. Forward the teams were evenly matched, but the Star hacks were much superior In attack, and it is to His they owe their victory. Indjed, had they made more use of their backs they might have won by a larger margin. Okato played a very solid, plucky game, their taeklln" being splendid. Eustace played a fine game at five-eighth-;, having a tremendous amouut of work to do. From the start Star attacked, Blucher and Koea being prominent In the forwards, but tlia Okato forwards were equal to the occasion, and cleared their line. Richards was nearly ov r from a nice opening by Blucher, and from the resulting scrum the ball reached dead-ball line. Skipper set the Star backs moving, but a faulty pass, combined with ?jod defence, checked each movement, and Fabish, Andrews and Corbett carried play to near Star's twenty-five. Star came back, and Okato were forced. Failure by the Okato full-back gave the visitors an anxious moment, but Eustace cleared with a long kick, and the coastal forwards, following fast, carried play to Star's twenty-flvo for the first time. A mark by Smith had the local team defending, and from a loose rush Eustace snapped up and scored, also converting, lust on half time. On resuming, Star at once attacked, but Okato forwards rushed, smotherln? Sutherland. A free kick brought relief, and n. little later Hartman made a great opening aad passed to Copestake, who streaked ever tho line and scored. Sutherland failed to goal. Star now opened out the game, and kept the visitors busy on the defence, until from a scramble Fay scored, Copestake failing to goal. From this on Star had the advantage, and from tho 25 HughiS gathered up the ball and scored a nice trv. Sutherland failed to »oal. Just on time Jacobs scored,' and Sutherland converted, making the final score: Star, 14; Okato, 5. For the wiuners Hartman, Skipper, Jacobs (backs), Blucher, Fay, Koea, Reynolds (forwards) were the pick of the team, as were Eustace, Smith (backs), Fabish, Corbett and Andrews (forwards) for the visitors. Mr L. H. Andrews gave every satisfaction as re. free.

BAHOTU (6) v. OLD BOYS (0). Old Boys journeyed out to Itahotu, and played the local team, the match resulting in a draw. Lack of weight and comuli.atlon in tluscrum was the outstanding weakness of the Old Boys' toam, whose backs also were handicapped by the greasy nature of the ball, raia having just ceased prior to the commencement of the game. Bahotu forwards were a flue, solid lot, and played a willing game. From the opening of the game, RRhotu forced matters, and from a iine-out ;. few yards from the Old Boys' line Jimmy Walwlri secured tbe ball and scored. M. Kidd failed to convert. Old Boys then opened out the game, and N. Little scored a try, evening up the scores. Wynyard failed to convert. Old Boys pressed hard during the remainder of the spell but though Itahotu were forced several times the visitors were unable to score, and the spell ended 3 all.

Soon after resumption C. H. Wynyard, the visitors' flve-elchths, scored a second try, which D. Hughes failed to convert. Itahotu forwards then. Infused more vigor into their play, and for the remainder of the spell had the decided advantage. As the vesult n' loose play. Joe Tamakaha, wing three-quarters, scored, the kick at goal falling. The guie ended with the score 6 all. Mr. W. Roch gave every satisfaction as referee. JUNIOR MATCHES. HIGH SCHOOL A (8) v. STAR (0). Tbe High School A team met Star on the racecourse, and after a good game, in which, however, the school bad th< advantage, Star wero defeated by S points to nil. In tho flnt half the Star defended stubbornly, and the School were unable to break through. On resuming the High School at once attacked, and a try was scored by Bellrj.iger, tho kick at goal falling. Later on O'Hr.boran crossed the line, and the major points to the try were added by a good kick by Fodon. When time was called the score was: School, 8; Star, nil. Mr. O. West was referee. LEPPERTON (23) v. TUKAPA (0). Tukapa suffered defeat at the hands of Lepperton on tho racecourse on Saturday afternoon. The country players were much heavier and faster than the home play_rs, and succeeded 'ln piling up 23 points whl'e their opponents were unable to score. For the winners trle3 were secured by Fussell (2), K. Klenner,' S. Klenner, Copestake, Feakins and Clapcott, one of which was convened by S. Klenner. Mr. Qulckfall controlled the game.
