SEAMEN'S STRIKE.
THE EFFECTS SPREADING, By Telegraph.—Press Assn.— Copyright. Melbourne, June C. It is estimated that by the end of the week 80,000 will be idle. Adelaide, Juno 0. The seamen's strike has extended to South Australia. The crews of all vessels arriving are giving notice. A PROLONGED STRUGGLE. Received June G, 10.5 p.m. Sydney, June 0. A meeting of shipmasters and officers; of the Merchant Service Guild resolved to urge the seamen to submit the dispute to the Arbitration Court.
The general opinion is that the end is not yet in sight. The Barrier miners' strike continues. Seven thousand are idle. Melbourne, June 6. After presentation of the result of the seamen's abortive ballot, Mr. Justice Higgins adjourned the conference. He will review the position from the Bench to-morrow. It is anticipated that the waterside struggle will now be prolonged. It is definitely stated that the Government will offer no compromise other than arbitration. It is; estimated that 21,000 are unemployed.-
