MILITARY DEFAULTERS LIST.
REGRETTABLE ERRORS MADE, ■ In the official list of defaulters just issued by the Defence Departent there is an unfortunate error in the ease of a Stratford eoldier, 'who is now deceased. Private Gordon Blair, mechanic, was a member of the 43rd Mounted Rifles, and after serving honorably in France until the armistice was on his way t home when he succumbed to influenza at Fremantlo. Deceased was a sou of Mr. T. Blair, of Ngaere.—Post.
It has been represented to us (says the Wairarapa Age) that one of the men. whoso name appeared in the military defaulters' list as having been deprived of his civil rights enlisted from Feath*r« ston with the Ninth Reinforcements, and waii killed in action on the Sonune in October, 1916. The name, occupation, and address of the soldier who made the supreme sacrifice are identical with those given in the list of alleged defaulters. It seems pretty certain, therefore, that a glaring and serious bungle hat' been mode by somebody. If it is discovered that the name of a soldier, who has died for his country has been published with the names of those who are "eidrkers" a prompt, full, and abject apology should be given by the authorities. The next-of-kin of the gallant soldier are naturally grieved to think that so regrettable aa error should have been made. '
