ATHLETICS.
The second annual sports of the Matapu Club, lield last week, proved a most most successful affair, financially and otherwise. There was a fine attendance of the public and the various events were well contested, making the outing a most enjoyable one. The results, of the various eevnts are as fo*ow:—100 yards Burnett 1, M. Wright 2; 12-inch chop— Eichstead 1, W. Wright 2 ; open hunters -W. Bailey's Bhjebelfl, Grierson's Taswan 2; thread and needle race—E. Scott 1, A. Mitchell 2; 15-inch chop—ESchstead 1, W. White 2; pony jump—D. Bauchop 1, 1". Atkins 2; factory horse—J. Naughton 1, C. Vincent 2; wrestling—T. Norman 1, Walker 2; open leaping—W, Bailey'a Bluebell 1, Grierson's Tasmtm 2j stockmen's competition—T. J. Hurley 1, A. Mitchell 2; 12-inch chop—J. Kissick 1, Sattler 2; married ladies' race—Mrs. H. Calder I, Mrs. N. Lee 2; single ladles' race—'Miss Calder 1; guessing sheep (correct weight 1511b)-Mrs. F. Atkins, Kamini; stepping the chain—Alex. Gmv 1 In the evening a dance was held, the'hali being crowded Mr. Sharp's orchestra provided the music and the duties of were carried out by* Messrs G Harrison, A. Guy, and L, Preece.
