SHEARERS' ACCOMMODATION.
COMPLAINT TO THE MINISTER. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Wellington, Last Night. - A deputation representing the Agricultural and Pastoral Workers' Union waited upon the Hon. Herries, urging better accommodation for' shearers. Members of the deputation declared that some of the quarters provided were very bad, and, in the interests of humanity, something should be done. The need for more adequate legislation to govern the. providing of accommodation for shearers was stressed, and the request was made that the Government should take over the Bill once introduced bv Mr. Veitch, M.P. The Hon. Herries said that, from the point of view of the men, the Act did not <ro far enough. The Act required only that the owner should provide n certain amount of air space. He was not the Minister for Labor, but he would put the matter before Mr. Massey, and would urge Mr. Massey to make an amendment to the existing law.
