FIRES.
OUTBREAK AT OIL STORE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. A fire of. motor spirits and oils occurred at the rear of the Vacuum Oil Co.'s premises at Port Ahuriri this morning. The estimated damage is about £4OO. Prompt action and the excellent work by the brigade saved the bond, containing 30,000 cases of oils, from destruction. FIRE IN WOOL STORE. CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE. Christchurch, Last Night. To-night a fire was discovered in the wool department at the Eastgate Refrigerating Company's Islington freezing works. The Christchurch Fire Brigade went out, and assisted the brigade connected with the Works to fight the fire, which took an hour and a half to subdue. A large portion of the fellmongery was gutted, but fortunately this-depart-ment is detached from the rest .of the works. The full extent of the damage cannot be ascertained to-jiight. The wool-drying machines were destroyed, and some 200 bales of wool severely damaged. It is estimated that the damage to the building, wool, and plant will run from £12,000 to' £20,000. The company will be able to make arrangements to obviate the cessation of operations.
