The Woodville Racing Club's autumn meeting takes place to-day and tomorrow. A number of Tarauaki horses were railed through on Monday, and judging by the woolbrokcrs' charts their chances of annexing the chief events are considered very rosy. The weather lias been ideal during the past few days, anil the course is reported to be in fine order.
Ten remain in the Woodville Handicap, run over a mile and a quarter, and the chances of Rewi Poto, Sweet Com, Bose Pink, and Master Moutoa are niusli discussed- The top weight ran well at Wanganui and at Napier, hut 9.6 is a big weight, and it is not the "moral" some people imagine. Sweet Corn is an improved nag, and is sure to run a great race Classification reads best amongst the light-weights. A small but select ii'eld of nine figure in the Telephone Handicap, five furlongs Simonides is in the boom, and if all they say about the local sprinter is correct he will prove a tough nut to crack. He finished just outside of a place at Wanganui, and the tracks should suit him better now. However, followers of form must respect the chances of quick beginners like Demos, Croesus, and Inih. Demos is a quiet tip from the course. Vacuum has a good horse's weight in itlie Hack Hurdles, one and three-quarter Imiles, but the opposition is not very formidable. Hushman may be more at 'home over the shorter distance on the second day. Lord Muakerry and Transmission have been in winning vein lately, and it is hard to pick anything to beat them in thu Whariti Hack Handicap. If reserved, Papar.ui may be the elect of backers in (he County Hack HandiI can. though Tormkohe and Borealis can both, travel fast. iSimomde.s is engaged in the President's Handicap, in which Kiltcss may he :t,lie hardest to stave off over the final ■isprint.
i\ A moderate crowd will face the musk "in the Victoria Hack Handicap, and the jr.i'ilic may prefer Master Iney over (he lirftancc.
The Saaanof- -Red Ribbon double for ■'the Great Easier and Oreat Autumn Handicaps have been backed down to n very short price. It looks ''apple pie" on paper.
Rewi Poto lias been paid up for at Feilditjp.. and there is little chance of the black fellow.being sent to Riccarton.
It is reported that P. Tlcelcy will ride Simonideis in his Woodville engage>r">nts.
Nobleman-appears to have been given i great chance to score in the Fcildiug Cup, and Waimatao and Demos are well L'-ited in the sprint event at Fcilding. Desert Gold promises to start a firm favorite in the Muster at E'lcrslie, and provided the going is good she will run .prominently. It. is said that Gray will ,(have the mount i Van?e and Zola are galloping well at War.ganui and may be worth watching at .Fcilding nc.\t week. \ The acceptances received for the Wa.i- ---! mate Plain" Trotting Club's annual meeting art 9-xl class, and a good day's 1 Sport a\v».itr patrons on Easter Monday. ■'Jri'irscs from nil parts- of the Dominion wi r lie competing and finishes should T>- , cry close- A successful meeting is i' irao.
; t ml Junior and Prince AJcwood are fancied for Plains Cup, and imieli discu^cd.,candidates- in the minor e.onts are Rio Grands, .Inqw, Molly • and Pj-jiikom.
