PLUNKET SOCIETY.
The New Plymouth branch of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children held its monthly meeting on April 14, Mrs. C. H. Burgess presiding. Nurse Williams reported for the month of March: —New cases 16, babies now under care 9S, solely breast fed 35, partially 20, artificially 37, visits to homes 340, mothers shown how to prepare milk 3, letters received 1, visitors to rooms 12, mothers to room 143, babies to rooms 118. The work this month has been very strenuous owing to sickness amongst the babies. There have been several cases of diarrhoea and gastritis, and heavy colds have been prevalent, few babies escaping. The report was adopted, and it was decided to close the rooms for Easter on Thursday, re-opening on Tuesday. The secretary was instructed to write a letter of thanks to Mrs. T. C. Sole for the offer of her garage, and also to Mr. Walter Weston expressing the society's grateful recognition and appreciation of bis readiness and generosity in giving it the very real help that he does. Mrs. Stuart Rusßell was appointed under-secretory temporarily.
After discussion it was unanimously decided that the committee form sub-sommittees, each sub-committee with its own convenor and being responsible tor its own work to the general committee. Mesdames G. Fraser (convenor), Nicholson and Chaney were appointed as a car sub-committee; Mesdames Hickman Russell (convenor), Ambury; and McHardy were appointed a rooms subcommittee, and authorised to spend £lO or thereabouts on further needed furnishings, and to arrange for members to bring flowers to the rooms; Mesdames Walter Weston (convenor), S. Russell, Nicholson, Fraser, Chaney, and Miss Wade were appointed to form an entertainment sub-committee.
It was resolved that for the purposes of collecting subscriptions the borough be divided into blocks and each member of the committee help to collect from same. A finance sub-committee consisting of Mesdames Walter Weston (convenor), Hickman Russell, and Sydney Allen was appointed to block out the borough, and it was decided to print the nurse's report for'the year for purposes of distribution by the society. The arrangements for the leaflet were left in the hands of the president and lion, secretary.
