INGLEWOOD.

(Our Travelling Representative.) Ingle wood, March 31. In conversation with the Mayor (Mr. W. Young) that gentleman informed me that he has no intention of seeking ronleetion. He believes it only a fair thing that the position of mayor should not be monopolised by one man, and after having filled the position for six years he prefers to give some other aspirant for the honor an opportunity of serving the ratepayers. Besides beiiu; mayor for six years Mr. Young served a further six years as a councillor, so can fairly claim that he has done hi>; fair share in working for the borough's 'interest. Naturally, since his going to the council table the town has made several advances. When he, first interested himself in municipal matters he found the streets being cobble-stoned and the water-channels anything but satisfactory. Since he took office the roads have been considerably improved, whilst the channels have been constructed on city lines, and the water system also improved, so that Inglewood compares favorably with any town in Taranaki, if not in the Dominion, from a health point of view. Since the formation of the borough of Inglewood six gentlemen have occupied" the mayoral chair. Mr. E. Nieholls was the'first mayor, being succeeded at the end of two years by Mr. W. Percival, who was followed by the late Mr. H.-B. Curtis, who filled the office for three years, Mr. •f. W. AVinfield coming next, and then Mr. G. Bennett was elected, being succeeded by Mr. Young, who will in April relinquish the office with the knowledge of having given his best. In passing it may be mentioned that Mr. Young's -position as mayor is unique, in that he is probably the only working man who has filled the position in Taranaki, if not the Dominion. Up till-quite recently he was engaged in Nieholls and Son's bakery business, and has now taken it over. There is a great, probability that Cr. R. Buckley will contest the vacancy. Regarding the New Plymouth scheme to provide Inglewood with electrical power, Mr. Young states he is greatly in favor of the proejet and wishes it every success.

Members of the Inglewood Defence Rifle Club are looking round for a new range, and. I understand, have two offers under consideration. Congratulations are extended to Rifleman G. Taylor in winning the aggregate at Whareroa last night. "Tis true he only defeated Dave Roots hf one point, but the Patea shot is an ex-Dominion champion and one of the best. The Marsh Bros. (Egmont Village) also hung on to the bull long enough to iand them into the prize money. The club would like to have a match with either Kltham or Kaponga.
