REPATRIATION QUESTIONS.
SOME PRINCIPLES LAID DOWN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, March 31. The conference of repatriation delegates reached decisions on many important points and a precis has been issued covering the business. It is pointed out, as governing the decisions, that tire board does not regard the matters considered as settled finally, but has sought to lay down guiding principles. In tho ca.-e of men who have not been oversea.; the certificate of leave in lieu of discharge is to be deemed a discharge for 111' 1 purpose of the Repatriation Act. This will meet the case of those applications held up bv the Land Hoards. On the questions of leans tho principle is affirmed that the loans should be by wav of repatriation, not as a reward for service. It was resolved that where a loan up to £3OO is mode to, establish an applicant in business the lean should include any necessary tools of trade. Freforonce should he given to returned soldiers as far as possible for all paid positions in the Repatriation Department. It was resolved that the conditions respecting the repayment of loans be reconsidered at the end of two years It was decided in connection with ivndor-rate permits that the Department is to make the wage up to £3 a week, exclusive of pension, that assistance T>« given to attend the university where a course of study was interrupted hy military service, where the university was not previously attended, but the man displays special aptitude.
