There are more people cutting gorse, etc., than there have been for a long time, and, if it is persevered with, the town will soon be in a better state. The matter of rubbish on footpaths was brought up at the works committee meeting, and it was decided to advertise calling people's attention to the by-law forbidding the leaving of orange skins, bananas, etc., on the footpaths. The fire at the borough stables was discussed, and it was decided to instruct the overseer to lock the stable doors when not in use, and to put up a sign: "Trespassers will he prosecuted." The committee set up to organise street decorations for the peace celebrations met last night, and decided upon having two arches in the main street—one at the bridge and one by Mr. C. H. •Johnston's garage, and flags all along the street. The borough is to he asked to find drays and men to get greenery for deeorating the verandahs, which will be quite a task, as it will have to be carted a considerable distance.
