A WILD STATEMENT EXPLAINED. Received March 25, 8.5 p.m. Sydney, March 25. The Rev. Watson, in a letter to the press, now says his statements did not refer to the Northern Territory, but were part of a general resume of the treatment of the blacks since the convict days. FIRST WALSH ISLAND SHIP. Received March 25, 10.30 p.m. Sydney, March 25. The Delungra, the first Commonwealth ship built at Walsh Island, has been launched. Her keel was laid on September 6. She is of the Islierwood type, with a cargo capacity of 5500 tons deadweight. RHODES SCHOLARSHIP ARRANGEMENTS. Received March 25, 7.40 p.m. London, March 19. The election of Rhodes scholars, which was postponed in war time, will be resumed in the current year. The scholarships due for 1918-19 will be, filled in October. Scholars for 1918 enter residence in January, 1920, and those for 1919 in the October following. Scholars for 1920-21 will be elected in the autumn of 1920, and the dates for entrance at the university depend on the conditions at Oxford, as the colleges are unable, to accept more than a given number at one time.—Reuter.
RESTRICTIONS ON CAPITAL. Received March 25, 9.50 p.m. London, March 24. The Government is abandoning its restrictions on new capital issues for domestic purposes. Restrictions continue on investments outside the United Kingdom, except under license.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
