ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham. March 24. Preparations were very complete for the visit of the Mangatoki scholars to Ngaere last week, but when the time arrived so also did the rain. Under the circumstances the visit to the gardens had to be abandoned. Not so the eatables prepared for the outing, as the scholars assembled in the Mangatoki hall, where, undisturbed by passing showers, the youngsters and adults made the most of every opportunity to extract all the pleasure possible out of tlte occasion.
Steady progress lias been made in membership of the local Oddfellows, and the influx of lad}' members has been particularly large. They have found that the hall requires a "spring cleaning," renovating, or made larger. The sisters are assisting to build up a fund to permit these alterations being made. On Friday a dance was held, the playing of the dance music by Mrs. J. Bodle adding to the pleasure of all. Mr. McNeill was M.C. Prior to the dance a euchre tournament was held, Mrs. Peddie winning the ladies' trophy and A. -Tones that offered for most points in the gentlemen's contest.
Anzae Day has been set aside for a dance which will be organised and controlled by the Returned Soldiers, who have already held a meeting and elected a committee, including Messrs B. Tayler, Corbett, Hornblow, 1.. Theobald, A. Klgar, McOill, Home, Kenny, McLeod, Hurley, Carlson, and Libeau, who can be depended upon to give patrons a reallv good evening's entertainment.
