(From Our Own Correspondent.)' (All communications, letters, etc, left with Mr 11. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will attention.) Stratford, March 24. On the first page Mr. J. W. Boon, who intends contesting the mayoralty, has a preliminary notice notifying ratepayers that he will take the public platform and indicate his policy if elected. Mr. Boon is no stranger to municipal politics, having served terms as mayor and councillor. Although the election is some weeks off, a fair amount of interest has already been worked up in connection with the contest. Those who attended the annual concert and dance of the A. and P. Association last winter will be pleased to learn that the association has decided to make it an annual fixture, and on our first page | to-day a preliminary notice appears anI nouncing the date. As in the past the committee intends securing the best available talent /or the concert, whilst experts will attend to the floor. The asphalting of Broadway continues to show steady progress, and it is very noticeable that whilst the western side laid in the new preparation is free from dust, the other side is still troubled considerably with the nuisance that all hope will be a thing of the past before many weeks. Advice has been received that Lieut. W. Kveriss is returning to New Zealand shortly, having left England on the 14th inst. by the lonic. Lieut. Everiss, who had fur years been a member of the star!' of Masters, Ltd.. enlisted as a private with the Main Body. Now is the opportunity for ladies desiring to purchase choice handbags of best quality leather. Mr. C. E. James has recently received a large shipment of English goods, and is offering same at prices well within the reach of all. Those on the look-out for wedding and other presents will find Doulton ware is also being offered in large variety. Don't forget to inspect these stores when next in Stratford.
