JAPANESE DEVELOPMENT.
A NOTE "OF WARNING. Sydney, March 14. Tho Rev. Mr. Bazelev, general secretary of the Church Missionary Society, has returned after a six months' visit to the East. He sounds a note of warning regarding Japanese trado and other developments. Japan is making amazug strides and occupiea a position of dominating influence commercially and r>!itically in the East. The whole country is a hive of industry, factories ar* going up everywhere and there is hardly an article of commerce which the Japanese are not now making. She is seeking new openings for trade the world over. The commercial penetration of Chita and India by Japanese manufacturers is something marvellous- She i? capturing markets wholesale and Australasia is destined to know much more of Japan before she is many years older.
Mr. Bazeley found a great deal of unrest everywhere in tho' East sgafnst Australia's exclusion policy. He prodiets that it will soon be necessary to ameliorate thi« policy in certain direo-tiong.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
