POWERS OF ARBITRATION OOTJIRT. | By Telegraph.—Press Association. j Auckland, Feb. 24. A diseussioa regarding the powers of the Arbitration Court under the Act of last ,-essiou occurred at to-day's sitting of tho court. Mr M. J. Heardon ocntendcd that the court was bound to take notice of the coat of livmj*, that was mandatory. Mr Justice Stringer said the court iself did not know what the Act meant. It seemed futile to go on increasing wages whkjh ortly increased the cost of living, so that workers were left where they were before. The Court could not control the cost of livine. Mr Reardon said that if Parliament had irked its duty the court must do it.s duty. Mr Justice Stringer: Until somethins; breaks. Mr Tteardon: Yea. until Parliament --, ops the absolute futility of its legislation.
