INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
FURTHER DEATHS. A DAY OF PRAYER. Melbourne, ,Feb. 20. There have been six deaths from influenza. The Labor Party passed a resolution condemning the Government's inadequate methods of dealing with the unemployed through influenza, and the incomplete system adopted in preventing infection. —Aus.-N.Z. CONFLICTING EVIDENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. At the Epidemic Commission, l>t. Russell, Port Health Officer, said there were no cases of pneumonic inftueni* on the Niagara when she arrived. Dr do Clive Low expressed the opinion that the pneumonic cases developed after the Niagara arrived. Colonel Andrew said the caiea at Narrow Neck were simply influenca, but after the Niagara's arrival fifty per oent. wero pneumonic cases. Dr. Russell, Port Health Officer, before the Epidemio Commission, speaking of the firemen's quarters on the Niagara, said it was a wonder that the men wore ill were alive at all. If the diaeaw was dreadfully contageous, he would not have expected to find anyone occupying these quarters alive. The steward*' quarters were not quite so bad.
