FIRE BRIGADES CONFERENCE.
TAHANAKI DISTRICT ASSOCIATION, The annual conference of tIM Taranaki District Fire Brigades' Association was held at the Central Station, New Plymouth, last night. The president (Lieut. I- Avoa, Fitxroy), presided and the following delegates were present:Senior Vice-President, Fireman Ji Champion, and Deputy-Superintendent, L. Rowson ((Hawera), Fireman A Moon (Stratford), Capt. W. 'H. Griffith* (Fitzroy), Deputy-Superintendent A. Boon, and Fireman 'J. Johnson (New Plymouth), Deputy-Supt. A . Melvilto (Kaponga), Capt. Frost (Waitara), Secretary C. H. Carey (Patea), Fireman A. Hindi (Eltham). Inglewood Brigade | was represented by proxy (Strpt. H. A. Nuttall, Eltham). An apology for absence was received from Supt. Ward (Kaponga). , Superintendent Belfringer welcomed the delegates to New Plymouth. He re« ferred to the need for better organiaa* tiou of the country brigades, and also spoke of the record of the brigades is the matter of members who had gone otf active service. (Applause). The president suitably acknowledged / the welcome. , ANNUAL REPORT. The executive, in the course of the annual report which was presented bf the secretary Fireman A. M. Burrows, (Eltham), referred with satisfaction U the conclusion of the war and the return home of many Are brigade men Referenoo was also made to those vti« will never be fit for fire service agafn, and satisfaction expressed that brigades were electing these men to life-mem-bership. Regret was also expressed that the influenza epidemic had taken off several members of the Association. An effort was being made to compile a complete roll of honor for the Association. In the matter of finance the Association was in a flourishing conditionTho question of the resumption of the annual demonstration was touehed topon, and the report concluded with an expression of thanks to officials of brigades for their assistance given to the Association throughout the yearThe balance-sheet, which was presented by the treasurer (Supt. H. A- Nuttall. Eltliam) showed a balance in hand of £•23 Ts. Reference was made to the death of Capt. Coldwell (Inglewood) durin? the year, and it was decided to include a suitable minute anent thereto in the animal report for the year. The matter of procuring a fresh sup- ' ply of rule hooks was considered and it was resolved lo leave the ma'ttei in abeyance in the meantime. Should competitions be resumed this year, it was shißirestedOiat hrijrnde secretaries should post copies of the competition rules in the stations. The report and balance sheet were adopted. CORRESPONDENCE. The president of the United Fire Brigades Association (Deputy Superintendent W. Couper wrote offering a gold medal valued at £2 2s as a prize in the one-man evont at the next •v.mpetitions held by the Taranaki Dig. trier Association.
