ON THE SEA.
DESTROYERS AND SUBMARINES FOR AUSTRALIA. BRITAIN'S OFFER ACCEPTED. Received Feb. 12, 5.5 p.m. London, Feb. 11. The British offer comprises six destroyers of the S class, alternatively a leader, possibly the Anzac, with five S destroyers and six of the J class of submarines. These vessels were built during the war period, and are the largest and best of their kind, size, speed, and seagoing qualities, their fighting quality being far in advance of the Australian destroyers and submarines, and they are considered most suitable for the Aus-tralia-China station, and will bring Henderson's scheme of construction to the full strength for 1919. Sir J. Cook states that Australia has accepted Britain's offer of six destroyers and six submarines of the most modern type, in recognition of the intimate cooperation between the Australian and I British navies.—Aus.
