LAND FOR SOLDIERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercnrgill, Feb. 11. Speaking' at a complimentary dinner at Whiten, tlie Hon. J). 11. Guthrie said the Government had settled soldiers on about half a million acres, at a cost of Ji 1 i;o(i,000. About half a million acres of Maoris lands had been acquired, ami 71H!,IHW -more were under consideration. This land was being held absolutely for soldiers, for whom the Government was doing probably more than any other country. THE DRIVERS' DISPUTE. , \apier, Feb. 11. Acting on the decision reached on Sunday, the Napier Drivers did not commence work till 8 a.m. to-day, and will knock off at 5 p.m. Local employers held a meeting yesterday, and offered to consider the mens' demands, but the
latter replied that the matter was a Dominion one and refused to treat.
