OPENING CEREMONY IN IRISH. PLEDGE TO SECURE INDEPENDENCE
Received Jan. 25, 5.5 p.m. London, Jan. 23. The Sinn Fein Parliament opened with much solemnity at Dublin, twenty-three members of the House of Commons participating. Parliamentary usages were followed, the meeting being opened with prayer, and a pledge was administered binding the members to make every effort to secure independence, The Irish language was used throughout, except for the pledge, which was translated into English.—Aus. and N.Z.
