London, Jan. 23; A Madrid wireless message states that Portuguese warships are bombarding Oporto, which the Monarchists control. Manuel's landing ig expected momentarily,—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc.
CONFLICTING MESSAGES.
HEAVY FINES ON TOWNS. Received Jan. 28, 5.45 p.m. Madrid, Jan. 23. Frontier messages state that the Monarchist movement is assuming serious proportions, but Lisbon reports that the Government has mastered the situation and taken steps to crush the movement. The Government fined Oporto £20,000 and Braza and Vizeu £IO,OOO each. Lisbon is quiet.—Aus. and N.Z, Cable Assoc
