(From Our Own Correspondent). ElLhaic, January 20. Constable Towuseud, with wife and family are now in New Plymouth. His stay there will extend over a few weeks to al'ow him to thoroughly recuperate after a severe bout with the iniluenza. Another patient, Mr. iC. Patten, lias also been visiting Kew Plymouth in search of health and sunshine.

It is pleasing to note that our Eltham representative, Private C. S. Noma, after nine months' captivity in a German prison, has been released and returned to England After a short stay there he hopes to be able to get back to New Zealand It is good to notice that ratepayers rake an interest in county matters. The Mangatoki Riding has three ratepayer;; offering their services—D. L. Astbury, W E. Carter and E. J. Fearou —in place of Cr. A. G. Pease. Sir. Astbury is nominated by Mr. Pease and will probably poli well. Mr Carter is a director on the Eltham Dairy Company, and has some knowledge of public works, whilst Mr. J. Fearon is well known in cricketing and sporting circles. Messrs A. 11. Gibson and T. Linn, who recently visited Ilawke's Bay In quest of stud sheep, have returned, bringing back several purchases. The sale was a big success, averaging SO guineas, some of v the stock realising 30 guineas per head.
