Ths annual meeting ol the Church iol England Men's .society Club willjbe held next week. The membership now totals 300, and is still growing strong With fine new premises in Bridge Mreet, the club aifords. every opportunity for the man about town who has an hour to spare in the day or evening to spend it in a profitable manner The club has been fortunate in having good committee* and ceigeiu. icwetaTies Mr F Primmer, who fills the latter position, is a worthy successor to previous oCicials, and loses no time in keeping the club before the public. I deeply regret having to record the death of Mrs. T. Hodger, which occurred or. Monday Deceased had been in in different health for a considerable period, but bore up under her affliction with Christian fortitudt, and was ever readyto do what she could for any purpose, being a diligent worker in patriotic and church matters. Although her end was sudden vrher. it came it was hardly unexpected. The sineerest sympathy of I friends will he extended to Mr. Hodgen | and his son in their great loss. Elt.ham usually riFes to the occasion, and the soldiers returning on Monday evening had no occasion to complain of the enthusiastic welcome home. Long before the train arrived the station was packed with a dense crowd of town and country visitors, all anxious to have a handshake with our latest batch of men. These included L. G. Libeau, A. E. and A. MeCraeken. and W R. Dee, and, on the call of the Mayor (Mr. T. B.Crump), hearty cheers were given as the men stepped from the train and were quickly taken possession oi by anxious and happy relatives.
