ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
Eltham, Jan. 4.
This morning I ran across Mr. "Wattic" Perrett. Three years ago he left here for sunny Hawke's Bay, and the change has been to his liking. He is still connected with the firm of Wilson and Canham, hide merchants. Whilst in Taranaki ho took a keen interest in Northern Union football. Questioned on this matter, he stated that Hawke's Bay would get going this winter. If a Taranaki team goes over next August he will be there to place the honors of Hastings before them. He was surprised to find Eltham so t[iuet, but, like many others, hopes that soon the place will (.waken and push ahead as in the days of ten years back. What has become of Eltham sports? Time was when we boasted of Athletic Club, Caledonian Society, Axemen's Association, etc., and by these means attracted attention to the town and Taumata Park. Don't say we have no young men; they are there all right. But it was not the young people rfho organised these gatherings, but the oldsters. Eltham badly wants a few more men of the type of Fred Hard}', Alf. Hansen, Alex. Clark, etc. Still, Messrs li. W. Tayier, E. Parrott, A. Whiting, H. Nuttall, and A. H. Andrews are not strangers to sport, so why not try and get going once again? The Boy Scouts are away out beyond Mangamingi and should have the time of their lives, having encamped on an area which includes iOO acres of bush.
